Connect IQ Data Field

Real-Time Aerodynamics.

AeroPod CdA is an advanced Connect IQ data field designed for Garmin Edge cycling computers. By opening a direct, custom generic ANT+ channel to your AeroPod or PowerPod sensor, it streams and displays your Coefficient of Aerodynamic Drag (CdA) in real-time. Find your most aerodynamic position on the fly.

AeroPod Telemetry

Coefficient of Drag (CdA) 0.245
Live Wind Speed 32.4 km/h
Incline Incline (Slope) 4.2%
Device: AeroPod Sensor ANT+ Channel: CONNECTED

Professional Aerodynamic Testing

Conduct field tests of aerodynamic positions, helmets, and clothing directly on the road.

Live CdA Stream

Visualizes your real-time Coefficient of Drag at every pedal stroke, enabling precise feedback on different hand holds, elbow widths, and head positions.

Wind Speed Telemetry

Extracts and displays continuous wind speed data, helping you correlate drag variations with headwind, tailwind, or crosswind exposures.

Incline Incline Tracker

Directly displays high-resolution hill slopes, giving you complete spatial context during aerodynamic field tests.

Generic Channel Data Extraction

Garmin Edge computers natively support power meters and smart trainers but lack standard fields for Coefficient of Aerodynamic Drag (CdA). Connecting to aero sensors requires custom ANT+ channel implementation.

This data field establishes a low-level **Generic ANT+ Channel** on `DEVICE_TYPE = 75` and `PERIOD = 8054` to tap into the AeroPod/PowerPod's broadcast stream.

It parses incoming data pages dynamically to extract CdA, wind velocity, and slope indices, presenting a clean, real-time readout directly alongside standard power and heart rate metrics.

How to Field Test

  1. Locate a flat, sheltered, low-traffic stretch of road (2-3 km).
  2. Perform your baseline run in standard hoods position. Note your average CdA.
  3. Perform subsequent runs in alternative positions (e.g. drops, aero hoods, tucked head).
  4. Compare average CdA figures instantly to calculate raw watt savings.
